First Ever Lions Eye-Dol to Showcase Local Talent

Fort Wayne —The Fort Wayne Dupont Lions Club announces the results of the first round of qualifiers for its first ever “Lions Eye-Dol” competition.
“Lions Clubs International is known for its dedication to community service,” explains chapter president Courtney Cohen, “and as a new club, we were searching for a unique project to help fund our service goals.” One of our members used to ‘sing the circuit’ with area Karaoke clubs, and brought the idea to club leadership. “And with Lions Clubs International long-term dedication to sight issues, merging ‘eye’ with American Idol fame seemed like a fun fit,” adds Cohen.

“As well as benefiting sight projects, the Dupont Club will also purchase books for its literacy projects initiated by its immediate past International President Wayne Madden, from Auburn,” notes Kaylene Souers, chapter mentor.

Lions Eye-Dol is a two night qualifying competition where local amateurs sing in front of local judges. “Our judges this year are Tom Didier, Brad Peterson, Chadd Cook,” explains Cohen. “5 competitors paid $25 each to complete last Thursday, with 4 moving on to the finals on November 7. This Thursday, October 31 is the last night of qualifying competitions. All qualifying rounds and the finals are held at Calhoun Soups, Salads, & Spirits, on Calhoun Street just south of Downtown.” Admission for all ages is $5 to watch the competitions on both October 31 and November 7.

“Please come out and compete, watch the show, and support area talent,” adds Souers. “We can take ‘walk-ons’, but you will need to bring your own accompaniment music.”
