February 2014 Nature Events At Little River Wetlands Project Preserves

Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this February. All are free and open to the community.

Saturday, February 1, 10 to 11:30 a.m. “Hike the Winter Woods.” Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Join us to enjoy the seasonal beauty of the preserve’s mature woods, discover who’s out and about, and practice winter tree identification skills. Dress for the weather. Every Tuesday in February, 9 to 11 a.m. “Little River Ramblers.” Meet at the Boy Scout Office parking lot, 8315 W. Thursday, February 13, 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. “Love Those Pond Insects!” Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Jeff Ormiston, Indiana Master Naturalist, will show us the variety and importance of the many insects that begin their metamorphosis in the ponds of Eagle Marsh or live their entire lives there.
