Movers For Military Drive Collects Over 2,500 Items To Assist Homeless Veterans Across Indiana

FORT WAYNE, IN — To assist homeless veterans across Indiana, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations throughout the state, including Fort Wayne, have been collecting essential items for donation to organizations supporting veterans in crisis as part of its Movers for Military program. The moving company recently delivered approximately 2,500 of items to the non-profit organizations in the second year of this community-based campaign.

While making tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedoms, many veterans across the country are struggling with unemployment and homelessness, relying on others to come to their aid as they once did for their country. With its annual Movers for Military program, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® hopes to support those who gave of themselves.

The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans estimates that in the United States approximately 1.5 million veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty or lack of support. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) estimates that more than 62,000 veterans are homeless on any given night.

Schools across Indiana, including Croninger Elementary School, Rainbow Child Care Center of Ft. Wayne and La Petite Academy 7020 locally, joined TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchise locations in collecting items such as food, clothing, soap and toiletries, for donation to local organizations providing critical assistance to veterans. In Fort Wayne, Movers for Military collected items for Volunteers of America, an organization that provides life-changing services to enhance the physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual needs of individuals.

“Volunteers of America was pleased and excited to be part of the donation project led by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®,” said Mary Leffler, Director of Community Engagement. “The items of clothing, hygiene and home furnishings are so valuable to the veterans residing with us in transitional housing. The generosity of everyone involved in the project is tremendous. We are so grateful that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® selected our veterans to support in its Movers for Military project.”

This was the second year of Movers for Military across Indiana. With the ongoing success of the Movers for Military program, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® expects to run the collection annually to raise awareness of the struggles many veterans face, while offering vital aid to those who require it.
