USF junior Walcutt CoSIDA Academic 1st Team All-America

University of Saint Francis junior Jason Walcutt has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division men’s soccer first team.

Walcutt (Fort Wayne, IN / Carroll H.S.) is a first-time selection who has a 3.73 grade-point average as a business administration major. Walcutt, who served as a captain, excelled on the pitch at forward as well finishing with a Crossroads League leading 18 goals this season raising his career total to 38, which ties him for fifth on the USF career-scoring list.

“This is a tremendous honor and accomplishment for Jason, and I am extremely proud of him,” USF Head Coach Mitch Ellisen said after learning that Walcutt had been named to the first team. “He had a great season for us on the field and continues to excel in the classroom. He exemplifies the term ‘student-athlete’ and is a credit to our university and soccer program.”

Earlier this month Walcutt was named to the Capital One Academic All-District College Division men’s soccer team. And he became the first USF player ever selected for the Crossroads League Offensive Player of the Year award.

Walcutt had six game-winning goals for the Cougars, which ranks No. 3 in NAIA. Last week Walcutt became the first USF play selected NAIA Player of the Week after scoring two game-winning goals, three overall, to help USF tie for the CL regular-season crown with 21 points, 7-2 in CL play.

Walcutt is the second member of the USF men’s soccer team to earn Academic All-America status joining Zach Baron, who won the honor in 2012.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
