NAACP To Host Year-End, Goal-Setting Meeting On Dec. 16

The Fort Wayne Allen County NAACP will hold its End of the Year meeting on Friday, Dec. 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Community Center, 233 W. Main St. The public is invited to join the civil rights organization, renew memberships and learn about group accomplishments in 2016.

Branch President Larry Gist and members of the executive board will discuss plans and goals for 2017. In October of 2016, Fort Wayne hosted the NAACP’s statewide convention, which attracted delegates from throughout Indiana.

Recent programs have focused on youth development, health education, police collaboration, faith community collaboration and community empowerment. The group’s most significant programs in the last year, include: Women in NAACP’s Annual Back to School giveaway; National Black HIV Awareness Day and the Black Church; Youth Support and Mentorship (Cease Fire In Our Neighborhood: Join Our Gang); Urban Gardening; MLK Day Continuing the Journey Youth Empowerment Seminar; Get Out the Vote Sunday; Intergeneration Project and the development of future leaders on our Youth Council.

NAACP continues to carry out the mission of advocating and securing, for all people, the rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution.

The public is encouraged to attend and bring their ideas and suggestions to the meeting and get involved. Refreshments will be served.

Looking forward to seeing you on December 16, 2016!
