USF Freshman NAIA Women’s Bkb POTWk

University of Saint Francis freshman Lauren McBryar has been named NAIA DII Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the first Lady Cougar to earn the national honor as a true freshman.

McBryar led unranked USF to two upset wins last week and in the process USF stretched its win streak to six consecutive games, the longest since USF went 38-0 in 2013-14.

The guard from Mooresville, Ind. (Mooresville H.S.), scored 21 points including 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point range in USF’s 88-59 upset at 30th-ranked Huntington on Wednesday. McBryar followed that effort with a 22-point game at home in a 60-55 win over No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan, the Wildcats in Crossroads League play after a 7-0 CL start.

McBryar shot .750 from 3-point range in two games with her 5-for-6 performance at HU leading USF to a school-record 17 made 3-pointers. She has scored 20+ points in three consecutive games helping USF win its last six games including five straight in CL competition. McBryar averaged 21.5 ppg in those two wins and is averaging 13.7 ppg for her first collegiate season.
