USF Presents Picasso At The Lapin Agile

The University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts is presenting “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” starting on Thursday, February 23 at 8 p.m. at the USF Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center, 431 W. Berry Street.

This long-running Off-Broadway absurdist comedy, written by Steve Martin, places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. In his first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century’s achievements and prospects as well as other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness.

The stellar cast will include Caleb Meyer(most recently seen as the Cowardly Lion in the USF production of “The Wizard of OZ”) as Pablo Picasso; Joseph DeLuca (making his USF debut) as Freddy;Catherine Martin (also making her USF stage debut) as Suzanne; Eric Gorall (last seen in USF’s production of “You Can’t Take it With You” as Mr. Carmichael) as Gaston; Louis Soria (most recently seen as the Mayor of Munchkin Land in “The Wizard of OZ”) as Albert Einstein; Ben Wedler (making his acting debut with USF, Ben has musically directed “All Shook Up,” “The Will Rogers Follies” and “Willie Wonka” & Munchkin music for OZ) as Sagot; Lucas Gerke (most recently seen in USF’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar”) as Charles Dabernow Schmendiman; and USF senior Clare Ramel(most recently seen as Mary in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “You Can’t Take it With You,” “The Will Rogers Follies,” “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” “Picnic” & “Xanadu”) as Germaine, and many more surprises.
