Huntington University Announces Grand Opening Of Multicultural House

Huntington University will officially open its Multicultural House, located at 775 Campus Street, Huntington, Indiana, on Thursday, April 21, at 4:45 p.m. The event will include a brief ceremony, ribbon cutting and a tour of the facilities, as well as a celebration of the various nations and cultures present on HU’s campus. The event will formally open the house to the campus and the community.

Though initially designed with minority students in mind, the house will be open to all students and will serve as a tool to bridge the gap between all cultures creating a dedicated space for cultures to be displayed and learned about. The house is fully furnished and decorated, and hosts a conference room, a study room, office space, lounging area, gaming area, eating area, and a kitchen.

The event will be attended by the university officials, including President Sherilyn Emberton and the Board of Trustees, as well as student leaders of the university’s International Student Council and its Multicultural Activities Council.

The purpose of the Multicultural House is to provide a place where international and minority students can feel welcomed and at home.

“It will serve as a place where students can feel comfortable to engage with other students who aren’t like them and to be a cultural center for our campus and community,” stated Daryl Singleton, director of Multicultural Affairs and Minority Student Engagement.

Huntington University approved the conversion and renovations of one of its properties into a Multicultural house during the 2016 spring semester and the location was finalized in the fall semester of the same year. Renovations began in November 2016 and were completed at the beginning of the 2017 Spring semester.
