YESTERDAY AFTERNOON: A tight game at the stretch turned into a lopsided, 12-3 loss for the TinCaps at the hands of the Whitecaps. West Michigan scored once in the fourth and added a pair in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead. Fort Wayne struck for 3 in the top of the seventh as Marcus Greene Jr. and Alan Garcia each had an RBI single, and Reinaldo Ilarraza provided an RBI groundout. But the Whitecaps ran away with a 6-run seventh and added 2 more in the eighth.

STARTING STRONG: TinCaps starting pitchers this season have posted a 3.33 ERA through their first 100 innings this season. The bullpen, though, has an ERA of 4.60 in 72.1 IP.

ALUMNI REPORT: 2014 TinCaps shortstop Trea Turner hit for the cycle last night for the Washington Nationals at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies. He was 4-for-6 with 7 RBIs. (Washington’s starting pitcher was Joe Ross, who was with Fort Wayne in 2012 and 2013.)… At Triple-A, 2015 TinCaps pitcher Dinelson Lamet struck out 9 batters in 7 scoreless innings last night for El Paso against Reno. Lamet currently leads the Pacific Coast League in ERA (0.45) and strikeouts (28)… At Double-A, 2015 TinCaps infielder Luis Urias was named Texas League Player of the Week and to MLBPipeline.com’s Team of the Week for last week.

WHO’S HERE: Padres Director of Player Development Sam Geaney and Special Assignment Advisor for Scouting & Player Development Steve Lyons are currently with the team. Former Major Leaguer Skip Schumaker has also been here this series. Schumaker, who played in the bigs from 2005-15 for the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Reds, is a Player Development & Baseball Operations Assistant for the Padres. He joined San Diego’s front office last June. As an outfielder/second baseman, Schumaker won 2 World Series with the Cardinals in 2006 (against the Tigers) and 2011 (against the Rangers).

WAKE UP: The TinCaps are 4-3 in day games so far this season.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Jack Suwinski is tied for the MWL lead in walks (14)… Brad Zunica is tied for 5th in walks (12)… Eguy Rosario is tied for 7th in doubles (5)… Rosario and Fernando Tatis Jr. are tied for 6th in stolen bases (5).

AS A TEAM: The TinCaps are tied for the 2nd most stolen bases (22) and the 2nd most walks (77, 4.1/G).
