YESTERDAY AFTERNOON: On the road, the TinCaps lost to the West Michigan Whitecaps, 8-2. Brad Zunica hit a fifth-inning home run to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn’t last as West Michigan tied it up in the home fifth and scored 4 times in the sixth (after there were 2 outs and no one on base) to break it open. Logan Allen threw 5 innings of 1-run ball with 5 strikeouts for the TinCaps.

ROAD TRIP RECAP: After winning 2 of their first 3, the TinCaps completed their road trip with a 2-5 record. Fort Wayne split a 4-game series at Great Lakes before being swept in 3 at West Michigan.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUDDY: Buddy Reed is celebrating his 22nd birthday today. Reed, who’s ranked as the Padres’ No. 30 prospect by MLB.com, is 7-for-20 (.350) over the last 5 games.

He skippered the Wizards/TinCaps from 2007-09, winning 220 games, and the ’09 Midwest League title. Dascenzo earned a World Series ring with the Cubs last year.
