Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana is honored to welcome oncologist, David Trenkner, M.D., as Physician Liaison for the local non-profit, which supports people affected by cancer.

Dr. Trenkner, who practiced radiation oncology in Northeast Indiana for nearly 30 years and retired in 2015, will utilize his experience and expertise to strengthen Cancer Services’ relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals in the community. He also will assist with the evaluation and development of new programs and services to ensure families touched by cancer receive high-quality support services.

“Dr. Trenkner is known for his service to this community and dedication to his patients,” said Dianne May, president and CEO of Cancer Services. “He is an example of a physician who understands how important it is to bridge medical treatment with the practical and emotional support people receive from Cancer Services. He will be able to communicate that on a peer-to-peer level with physicians in Northeast Indiana, while helping us improve the programming we provide. “

A native of South Bend, Dr. Trenkner graduated from Indiana University in 1978 with a degree in math and continued on to graduate from the IU School of Medicine in 1982. Specializing in radiation oncology, he completed his residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Trenkner moved to Fort Wayne and joined Radiation Oncology Associates in 1986.

As a physician, Dr. Trenkner was known to not only understand the patient’s point of view, but how to improve support systems for the broader cancer community. He has been a longtime advocate of the resources Cancer Services provides and served on Cancer Services’ board of directors from 2009 through 2014, and as a member of Cancer Services Professional Advisory Council. Dr. Trenkner has also served as chair of Parkview’s Cancer Committee and as board chair for United Way of Allen County.
