The Three Rivers Festival and O’Daniel Automotive Group are teaming up to add the Indiana Historical Society’s (IHS’s) new History on Wheels traveling exhibit to this year’s festival lineup. The 53-foot double expandable semi-trailer will be free and open to the public daily, July 7 through 9, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The mobile museum will be located at the Club Soda parking lot, at the corner of S. Clinton and Superior Streets in Fort Wayne.
Aboard History on Wheels, IHS’s Auto Indiana exhibit will take visitors on a ride through Indiana’s rich automotive and racing heritage. Auto Indiana touches on the history of more than 100 Indiana automakers and manufacturers, such as Duesenberg, Gibson and Studebaker. The exhibit also delves into the lives of Hoosier innovators and inventors, such as Carl Fisher, Elwood Haynes and Ralph Teetor.
This year’s Three Rivers Festival also features several draws for racing fans. Children who visit History on Wheels can climb into the driver’s seat of a mini INDYCAR and imagine what it would be like to cross the famed Yard of Bricks.
In addition, festival organizers say guests of all ages will have two chances to view a replica of this year’s winning Indy 500 car, courtesy of Ruoff Home Mortgage, sponsor of this year’s Indy 500 champion car as well as the Three Rivers Festival. Saturday July 8, the car will appear in the festival parade before going on display in the Club Soda parking lot.
