The Arts United Amplify Art! Committee has chosen a feature-length documentary about the Fort Wayne Derby Girls to showcase for this round of crowdfunding. The Amplify Art! Committee selects only three arts-related projects from many submissions for their crowdfunding website artsunited.org/amplify. The community amplifies these projects with funding gifts and social media awareness until the session ends on October 31, 2017. Additionally, gifts to the Derby Girls Documentary will be backed with a dollar for dollar match, up to $1,500, by 3 Rivers Federal Credit Union.
First-time director and Fort Wayne native, Joe Wood, has started his feature length documentary showcasing the Fort Wayne Derby Girls. The film will focus on the lives of the skaters, what drives them to play their sport and the growth of the sport in the community. The Amplify Art! funding will allow the rest of the project to be completed through 2018 and the ability to submit to Fort Wayne’s Hobnobben Film Festival in 2019. The goal of this film is to draw positive attention to the growing sport of Roller Derby, as well as the city of Fort Wayne.
