Veteran’s Day Celebration At Bishop Luers High School

Bishop Luers High School will be celebrating Veteran’s Day 2017.

On Nov. 9, the school’s Sodalitas service groups will create care packages with handwritten letters to be delivered to the homeless veterans and veteran patients at the Veterans Affairs Hospital at the Fort Wayne campus.

The Bishop Luers community is also inviting former USAF Capt. Guy D. Gruters as the keynote speaker to conclude the day’s events. Captain Gruters was a POW for five years during the Vietnam War and speaks about his relationship with God. His book “Locked Up With God”details that relationship. He will be speaking to the Bishop Luers High School community starting promptly at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9. The high school extends an invitation to all interested members, especially those who are active duty and retired servicemembers of the United States military. If you are a veteran of the armed forces and would like to attend and/or participate with the day’s events, please contact Mr. Jordan Miller at jmiller for further information regarding your attendance and/or participation.

To help fund the materials required to assemble the care package, Bishop Luers will be selling Veteran’s Day T-shirts for $15. Ordering will take place from Oct. 13 – Nov. 1. All shirts will be fitted as standard adult sizes. Pick-up will be available on Nov. 8 or 9, depending on the size of the order. More details will be given on a future date regarding pick-up. All money is due at the time of ordering. If you would like to donate materials for the care packages, please check back with Mr. Miller at jmiller in the near future for a list provided by the VA Hospital.
